Hello! I’m Catherine.

I am an architect, former hospital administrator, practitioner of human-centered design, operations expert, and a proud left hander.

That jumbled list of things has great intention behind it. As an architect, I love to build and solve puzzles, especially those in systems. My career began in healthcare architecture and a desire to get closer to helping patients led me to shift careers and step into hospital administration for a time. I learned that while I have a passion for healthcare, I am a designer at heart and thrive in project-based, deadline-driven environments full of creative teams.

I returned to design in a hybrid role of architect + strategy consultant and led the design and construction of over 3 million square feet of healthcare facilities. Recently, my interest in design has expanded beyond architecture to linking physical environments with digital experiences and services, yet always anchoring on the human experience of what we create and build. The work on this website is a selection of projects from my time at IDEO where I have brought that random list of things together to lead design teams in helping our clients do extraordinary things.
